SAN FRANCISCO -- The Oakland A's were able to sweep the Bay rivalry series today, clipping the Giants by just one run. The 5-4 victory was Oakland's 4th straight as they try desperately to makeup ground in the AL West.
Cory Lidle pitched 7 strong innings and Randy Velarde hit a key home run in the early go. The A's finished the game with 10 hits. San Francisco made a bid in the late innings but they stranded Bonds 1-out triple at third and were unable to tie. Bonds finished 2-for-11 in the series with a home run.
The A's get an off-day tomorrow before starting a favorable road schedule that will see them play the Pirates and Reds. "It's discouraging to see Anaheim continue to win, but we have to continue winning and not worry about it. If we can have a good roadtrip, we'll make up ground, guaranteed," said Maty McNeil postgame.
