HATTEBERG'S WALK-OFF SINGLE CLOCKS GIANTS

OAKLAND -- The second half of the Bay Series Rivalry started out with a big bang from the Athletics who won it in 11 innings with a Scott Hatteberg walk-off single.  After a single to Jermaine Dye and a hit batter, Hatteberg smashed a single through the drawn-in infield to give Oakland the win and shrink the division deficit to 5.5 games.

Oakland had been ahead by 1 run going into the 6th but 3 consecutive botch outfield X-plays produced 3 runs for the Giants.  But in the bottom half of the inning, San Francisco walked the bases loaded and then walked the next two consecutive batters.  The A's had just 8 hits in the game and left 13 on base.

The Athletics are 19-4 over their past 23 games.  They're now tied for 2nd in the AL West.
