CHICAGO -- The Athletics had little trouble with the White Sox today, creaming the south-siders 9-3 and sweeping the series. Jeremy Giambi slugged two big home runs on a day when the ball was flying out of Comiskey Park. Eric Chavez also hit a home run, his 4th of the year, in the 1st inning.
Jeremy Giambi had 5 RBI's for the game and finished 3-for-4. He cracked homers in the 4th and 6th innings and added a sac fly. Timmy Hudson had a quality start. He went 6 innings and allowed 2 earned runs on 4 hits. The A's had 14 hits for the game.
Eric Chavez has turned it up over the last ten days. He's hitting .394 over that stretch with a jack and 22 ribs.
Oakland returns back to the Bay tonight to prepare for the red hot Red Sox. They're now 23-4.
| Around the League: • The Boston Red Sox have been playing great baseball. They are on an 8-game winning streak and they own a major league best 23-4 record. They also own a major league best .857 team OPS and major league best 11-2 road record. They are 5-0 against lefty starters. Nomar Garciaparra owns the highest batting average in the majors at .403. They are 8.5 games above the Yankees. • Arizona's Curt Schilling has won his 6th start at the season. He is 6-0 with a 1.79 ERA. In 59.1 innings he's struckout 76. • Rodrigo Lopez of the Orioles has been pitching lights out. Since being moved out of the pen, he's won all 3 of his starts. His ERA is now at a league best 0.78. • It's been a miserable spring so far in Tampa Bay. The Devil Rays own a horrible 6-23 record and have lost 6 straight. Their .246 team batting average ranks dead last in the American League. Infielder Russ Johnson is 3-for-37 this year. He's been pulled from the lineup. The Devil Rays as a team are hitting .156 vs. lefties. • The Los Angeles Dodgers are the best team in the NL at 23-8. Their pitching has been incredible. Everyone on their pitching staff has pitched well. Relivers own a 2.22 ERA and have struckout 76 in 81 innings. |
