PHILADELPHIA -- Philadelphia fans certainly got their money's worth at Veterans Stadium.Randy Wolf (5-1) pitched a rare no-hitter as the Philadelphia Phillies toppled the Houston Astros 2 to 0.
Wolf provided a brilliant, unforgettable performance for the hometown crowd at Veterans Stadium evening. He walked 2 Houston batters. The Philadelphia players and coaches started to leave Wolf alone with his thoughts after the game reached the 7th inning. By the time the 9th inning rolled around, you could hear a pin drop every time he went to his wind-up - and an explosion after every out. Philadelphia took care of Houston with no trouble in the 9th.
The loss was charged to Dave Mlicki(0-4). Wolf was in a jubilant mood after the game. 'If I'd known I was going to throw a no hitter I would have gotten a haircut!' he said, much to the delight of the clubhouse gathering.
