ANAHEIM -- Ben Weber delivered 4 flawless innings in relief and Adam Kennedy collected 2 extra-base hits as the Anaheim Angels defeated the Seattle Mariners in 10 innings by a score of 6 to 3 at Edison Int'l Field.
Both teams were tied at 3 runs apiece after nine innings. Anaheim was victorious in the 10th inning. Darin Erstad led off and he slapped a single. After an out was recorded, Garret Anderson stepped up to the plate and he delivered a base-hit. One out later, Brad Fullmer stepped up to the plate and he clubbed a three-run home run making Anaheim the winners and sending the 43,866 fans home happy. Anaheim had a total of 10 hits for the game.
Al Levine (1-0) went 1/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the win. Shigetoshi Hasegawa (0-1) was given the loss in relief. He pitched 3 and 2/3 innings giving up 3 hits and 1 walk.
| A'S CHILL ON OFF-DAY The A's jet touched down in Dallas late-evening yesterday. They took a team bus to the Rosewood-Madison luxury hotel in downtown Arlington. Today, Manager Maty McNeil, Mark Mulder, Barry Zito, Mark Ellis, and Eric Hiljus played a round of golf at Emerald Lake Golf and Country Club in Fort Worth. Afterwards, they ate at Vinny's, a popular barbecque stand here in Arlington. The team bus leaves for The Ballpark in Arlington early tomorrow (noon) where players will eat lunch and partake in light practice. Batting practice will begin at 5:30pm Central Time. Temperatures for tomorrow's game will be in the high 70's. |
